Pathtrace to show new 5-axis machining at MACH 2006

Pathtrace will demonstrate the latest release of its EdgeCAM software on stand 5668 in Hall 5 at MACH 2006. EdgeCAM 10.5 introduces a comprehensive 4- and 5-Axis simultaneous machining capability and brings the benefits of these advanced multi-axis machining techniques in reach of all machinists by reducing the complexity associated with this technology.

5-Axis machining is a key technology for improving manufacturing efficiency and reducing lead time, by providing the ability to machine complex components using a single set up and employ shorter series cutters. Additional benefits include improved accuracy and surface finish.

A powerful and intuitive set of strategies meets the requirements of industries such as aerospace, motor sport, medical and oil & gas including. Strategies include 5-Axis simultaneous SWARF cutting for machining variable taper walls combined with sophisticated multi-surface finishing and profiling strategies. In addition to the range of 5-Axis strategies, the requirements of 4-Axis rotary machining are addressed with a range of cycles that handle the machining of automotive and aerospace components such as camshafts, blades and rotary dies.
State-of-the-art visualisation is provided by EdgeCAM Simulator, with the ability to accurately model the machine tool and simulate all movement within the manufacturing process. This is particularly useful with 5-Axis machining, where small changes in angular movement can generate significant movement of the machine tool with potential for expensive collisions.

In addition, Pathtrace will be previewing the latest innovations for programming the latest generation Mill/Turn machines with new features including full 4-Axis rotary machining, automatic feature recognition and one-hit programming of rotary holes. Designed with ease of use and faster programming in mind, this new capability further enforces EdgeCAM’s ability to handle the demands of Mill/Turn programming.
