The Kew Bridge
Steam Museum is pleased to welcome back the popular Model Boat
Show on the weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June 2006.
The museum will again host this fun packed event, with a host
of activities for all the family, including : model boats and
railways, craft workshops, steam train rides and model boats
in a demonstration pool. After last years successful turn out,
the show is now a regular feature on the museum’s calendar.
Besides admiring the work of others, visitors (especially the
children) can have a go themselves in the craft workshops and
radio control sessions on the demonstration pool.

This stunning exhibition
will offer visitors a chance to see first hand a fascinating
array of model boats from various clubs and individuals. At
the demonstration pool visitors can see models put through their
paces and static displays of waterline and full-hull models
of all shapes and sizes - from a paddle steamer only 2.5 inches
(65mm) long to battleships 6 feet (about 2metres) in size. Many
of the models have not been exhibited before and they include
HMS Vanguard (Britain's last battleship) and a diorama of RMS
Queen Mary leaving the Ocean Terminal. The centrepiece will
be a beautiful 1/32nd scale model of the Medway Queen. This
year, for the first time, the ships will be joined by small
scale operating model railways. These include the “Garden
Railway” – a unique model depicting families riding
on a miniature railway (a model of a model) - and a large modular
N gauge layout with 4 continuous circuits running trains from
around the world. Another railway highlight will be a larger
scale model of the Lion locomotive – famous as the “Titfield
Thunderbolt”. |
The event, sponsored for the third consecutive
year by Pathtrace Ltd, a global leader in developing CAD/CAM software
solutions for milling, turning, advanced surface machining and solid
modelling, was initiated to raise funds for the museum and for the
Medway Queen Preservation Society and has now become a firm favourite
with visitors who will have a chance to see what other modellers
have been building, admire their work and compare notes on techniques
and how to avoid the pitfalls. There will be trade support, steam
train rides, refreshments available and all the other regular attractions
at Kew Bridge Steam Museum.
